Applied these changes locally and they're working as expected for me. Would definitely love to see this merged and released as a proper plugin update!

I had the same issue. There's another plugin being developed that does work with OBS >= 28 over at https://github.com/nhielost/obs-midi-mg/. I did a quick test and that one does install...
