I think this might be due to the text data limits in the zabbix database which is truncating the output to 65536 bytes? https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/5.0/manual/config/items/item#text_data_limits Is there a workaround?

I've realised that just setting "head -n 2047" on half the machines I'm monitoring and "tail -n 2047" on the other half will workaround the issue.
