Indirect GLX not functioning in some cases

After upgrading to macOS 12.1 the workaround above (setting `enable_iglx`, restarting XQuartz) stopped working. I have tried setting LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT to 1. I'm running XQuartz 2.8.1 and Ubuntu 18.04.
