Support for IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort
This is a feature request. I have been using BEDTools on Linux on an IBM z15 mainframe, and while most things work quite well, bedtools sort
is not fast enough for the huge workloads I have.
My z15 has IBM's Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort coprocessor, and BEDTools doesn't seem to be using it. It seems likely that taking advantage of dedicated hardware sorting acceleration would speed up bedtools sort
a lot.
I'm not sure if it is possible to access the sorting coprocessor using Linux, so implementing this may require porting BEDTools to z/OS first.
Thanks again for this great piece of software!
This issue is a barrier to professional usage of BEDTools.
