I'm not sure cygwin supplies a cross compiler. I've successfully cross-compiled from Windows to Linux using the cross musl toolchain from https://win.musl.cc/.

Centos 6.8 seems to come with gcc 4.4. I think you need at least 4.7 for those instructions.

From a quick glance `equal` and `labelCompare` don't appear to normalise escape sequences. (Eg: `\097` and `a`, or `\a`, and uppercase variants thereof should be equal.) Should they, or is...
