I don't think so. The closest thing would be the newly introduced metadata feature, but it is only on files (not directories), and currently only implemented on a few backends....
One question, probably to @ncw: Looking at existing implementations, i.e. local, s3 and internetarchive, I'm unsure if I should include mtime as system metadata for the backend or not, duplicating...
