Hopefully not an inappropriate plug, but I wrote [Sig4 version of this authentication](https://github.com/aidan-/httpie-aws-authv4) plugin a little while ago. Hopefully it useful for you!
FWIW, I am also hitting this issue due to my GH username ending in a hyphen. I'll try @and-es's PR and see if it's enough to resolve the issue.
