Your command line is missing "-s". Something like "seqprep -f SRR2017741_1.fastq.gz -r SRR2017741_2.fastq.gz -1 SRR2017741_1_seqprep.fastq.gz -2 SRR2017741_2_seqprep.fastq.gz -s SRR2017741_merged.fastq.gz" should probably work.
It means it comes **from** a circularised sequence. So you **don't** have to add duplicate sequences at the beginning and end.
How big is the fastq file? I'm wondering if it's crashing because of memory issues.
