Experienced the same issue here: - Jupyter Lab alpha release version: 0.27.0 - Windows 10 - Firefox 55.0.3 (32-bit) running within virtual env with Python 3.5.3
Original file:  Edited using the text editor: (Changed 'size' in class Chipdesign)  When checking the text file using external editor:  Hope this helps!!
