I think path's are more "dangerous" as they are easier to mishandle than a string, where the mishandled case leads to copying the files to the store.

Is this in any way inherent to the Nix expressions or is it an upstream bug? We don't track Emacs upstream issues here.

This problem should really be fixed in nixpkgs. Could you report an issue there and reference this one?

I would like to take this even further and embed the config in the Emacs closure regardless of tangling. I'd be very happy if someone made a PR for that.

I'm hoping that https://github.com/pyca/cryptography/pull/6371 will be able to solve this in a satisfactory manner.
