I can confirm that running in a virtual environment with python 3.9 solves the problem. So I think the problem lies with kivy. I think you can close the bug...

The packaged version still has the same problem. That installed in a venv is working good.

If zulip is installed via apt the bug is no longer present. Also the GTk-Message is gone. So the problem seems to affect only the snap version.
