This happens to me on the DSi XL too, sometimes the entire console locks up when taking screenshots in the overworld too.
Just as an update, it seems like both Chinese options fail to compile if there's any English characters.

I have the same issue as well. I can load content via NSP forwarders but trying to load content from RetroArch itself crashes the software. It also crashes when restarting...
