Raspberry pi failure with sonars

Some percentage of RPis just fail when we plug them in to the Sonar board. The drop out rate so far is about 3/40 - which is unacceptably high. We have no idea why this happens, but it does seem to be associated with connecting the sonar board. Ideally we find the source of the problem and design it out.
