My gut is that we fall in line with the existing join_type param on the method. and add it there. https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/development/legacy/database/active-record.html#jointable-cond-type--

Thanks for taking the time to write all of this up! I believe there's could be a misunderstanding of how comments work. The global setting is just for turning comments...
