This is probably too big of a rework and/or doesn't work as well as it does in my head, but it's interesting to think about imo so I'll throw it...
Note that as of 2 days ago, `~` is expanded for native commands https://github.com/PowerShell/PowerShell/pull/21529. And that is also considered for backport to the current release of powershell.
