Quick update. If I set Cycles to use CUDA instead of Optix Blender just immediately closes when using Cycles / GPU instead of displaying the error message above.
Another update: This doesn't happen in Windows. Everything works fine there.
While trying to compile LuxCore on Linux I noticed that it was using Optix 7.1.0 (which is ancient). I guess this causes the problems mentioned above? Blender master is on...
Is anyone here actually using BlendLuxCore in Blender > 3.0 on Linux?
The Python updates that were committed are Windows-only sadly. So no change for Linux users yet.
There have been many (futile) attempts to get LuxCore to compile / work with Python 3.10 on Linux during the last few hours it seems... 
Good news: BlendLuxCore can now be activated in Blender 3.1 and 3.2 on Linux (thanks to the upgrade to Python 3.10) Bad news: This problem still persists: https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/BlendLuxCore/issues/745

Nice! I was about to write a very similar comment / request regarding lens distortion. fSpy would become the one-stop solution. Even better if it supported calibrating your own lenses...
