BigMac 3 aka BigMac Lite

Open StarPlayrX opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

BigMac 3 / BigMac Lite is planned and it will be designed to work with Open Core Legacy Patcher.

Purposed changes:

  1. Removal of Post Install. It's not need with the OCLP's boot loader and patch process, unless additional patches to OCLP is needed itself to things like supporting Intel Wireless.

  2. Default install with disk sealing turned on. This is because OCLP works better with disk sealing than unmodified. There will be a checkbox to turn off sealing on the Pre-install screen. Things like disabling Gatekeeper will either be turned off or removed. OCLP allows to run a Mac like a Supported Mac.

  3. Ability to use the Mac installer from Bigmac's installer discs.

  4. Ability to download and run Open Core command line options.

  5. A guide on how to put OCLP on an external USB EFI partition and get started with or without a flashed GPU.

  6. A metal GPU will still be highly recommended but with OCLP, it is not a requirement.

  7. Official releases of BigMac 3. (Main reason I've been holding off releases for BigMac as I wanted to test out SurPlus extensively before diving in again).

  8. Auto update macOS downloads within BIgMac.

  9. Once OCLP is in place, and at least one version of macOS is installed. BigMac will not be needed nearly as much. This is because you can Run macOS updates which is regained by OCLP as a boot loader and its Kernel patches.

  10. I have found a new issues with OCLP and will be reporting those and get some answers before getting started.

  11. Bare in mind I work in Identity and Security and that takes precedence over all of my personal work. That said, I do not expect the BigMac Lite changes to take awhile. A good portion of it in its first iteration will be stripped away.

BigMac3 is underway.

However, it may focus on internal bugs first. I am not sure about OCLP integration as of yet, but will try to produce a guide with it and I do use OCLP with bigmac myself for Monterey and Big Sur users.

OCLP is having a hard time with Ventura. It looks like the 2008 - 2012 MacPro's may not be able to boot Ventura, until OCLP catches up.

That said, the current bigmac3 work will focus a new clean menu bar launcher, Ventura support for the 8 or so Macs there were recently cutoff by Apple.
