Can’t update further, worked great on my Mac 5,1

After using post install - allow MacOS updates through App Store - still can’t update to 11.5.2? Had a Radeon 7950 Mac edition metal card (which I had to use, since my Radeon 580 wouldn’t boot into the startup manager.) Other than that, worked like a charm - did upgrade WiFi and Bluetooth as suggested. Updated 2 Catalina SSD (owc) volumes.

try downloading the latest 11.5.2 directly from Apple. Hint, google Mr. Macintoshes site.

Warning anything after 11.2.3, you'll have to deal with Race Conditions at boot.

Is your RX 580 flashed? if not, you can use OCLP in conjunction with BigMac.

Apple App Store won’t let me download. Tried open-core and mr Macintosh install.pkg. Wouldn’t work froze at 15% on Apple screen - would not continue (left it for 6 hours.) Sounds like I’m better off sticking with 11.2.3 until race conditions get fixed.

Thanks Will donate

Use curl to download the installer Pkg.

curl -o ~/installer.pkg http://...

Then open the pkg

Then run Bigmac2.app to create the installer disk.

I'd personally wait until there is a solid solution to the race conditions can 11.3+. There really is not advantage to 11.5.2 on unsupported Macs yet.

Curl install worked perfectly. Creation of the installer disk worked. Installer crashed with 12 minutes left. Cratered my SSD (disk utility couldn’t fix.) Have multiple backups - going back to Mojave. According to others, could have been a problem by starting with DosDude’s Catalina Patcher (patched from Mojave to Catalina) then used BigMac2.

It's a race condition. Nothing wrong with BigMac2. Only 11.2.3 and older does not have the same race conditons that 11.3 has.

11.2.3 does have a race condition as well, but it doesn't happen often. 11.3+ including 11.5.3 and Monterey beta 5+ have race condition that are in the macOS installer from Apple and within the OS' themselves. Both symptoms are in the boot process.

Latebloom.kext can help. BigMac2 does not support it yet, but OCLP has unofficial support for it. Your mileage will vary.

I recommend using 11.2.3 until a more solid fix is in place.
