BigMac2 and Open Core future

Open StarPlayrX opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

A future version of BigMac will include the Open Core bootloader. The new BM will play nice with OC and vice versa. This won't be your typical OpenCore implementation, but it will eliminate post install patches as it will rely on OC to inject the Kexts. Unless there is something that requires a system patch. This integration will allow non flashed video cards as well, but if you do have a flashed video card we will have some nice options for that as well.

This will make things easier for everyone in the near future.

With that we are keeping an eye on the Latebloom.kext which at this point it is best suited for OC. However this intergration will still be considered highly experimental as it's possible to still get a many race condition startup locks. It's terrible that this seems to something unsupported mac users will have to deal with post macOS 11.2.3. And please note that 11.0.1 - 11.2.3 also have a Wireless and Firewire related Race Condition. It does not happen often, but I've seen it many times where the machine will go into an infinite loop with the FireWire GUID is missing error.

I haven't gotten around to combining BigMac2 with OCLP.

But here is what I recommend and I have done successfully:

Install OCLP on a USB stick. This is pretty quick.

Do all your boots from it and you can boot into bigmac with it etc. You can then boot any bigmac installed disks directly from Open Core. You don't have to do any post patches as is it is all handled by OpenCore.

From there you should be able to do software updates.
