Any updates on this issue? I think at least bumping to jdk 17 should be not a big deal.

I observed that the property isMaximized reports wrong values on closing JabRef under mac when it was set to true at startup. Even after resizing it never changed

I don't know but it was clearly missing in the parent pom, so maybe that got resolved instead?
