Do you have a resistor in between the beaglebone and the first LED?
@mykolasmith I believe that I got it working by going back one Debian release. Try the "Debian 7.11 2015-06-15 4GB SD LXDE" release [here](https://beagleboard.org/latest-images).
I've had success either by setting the static IP via wicd-curses, or by letting it use DHCP and setting my router to assign a static address to a given MAC...
