+1 on the request to merge this. it would reduce the complexity of our docker builds, since this feature is the last dependency holdout we can't just install from conda/pypi
any update on this? We are using vips openslideload and are facing the same issue with dicoms that split levels between multiple files: `Slide contains unexpected image (2.25.173061438138412873353474748529596729144 vs. 2.25.316660171268829766489021145443946682190)`...
is there progress on this issue?
