Choose record type when creating new record

We would like to be able to create new record by choosing/defaulting the record type from the Kanban view. For example, I have a custom object Task which I am using for Opportunity and Events. I would like to create Opportunity Tasks and Deal Event Tasks from their respective related records. Thanks
