Working with other objects

Is there a way to adapt this application to work with other objects, maybe even custom ones? I tried to modify the queries and object describes to at least get accounts but it just continues loading (even though it shows the correct number of accounts in the sidebar) I see that you guys have the Salesforce for iPad app but I like the idea of having a solution that works directly from the org and its not tied to one device family.
