I have customised thumbnails playlists and few other paths in RetroArch (to save them during updates as per instructions) but it seems UI takes original paths form RetroBoot / Retroarch...

Download is very very slow. I'm on 1gb LAN with NAS that normally transfers with 103MB/s. Installation takes ages. Copying over to HDD and installing from there would be faster.
