Same happens on Linux.

It's 2018 and i ran into the exact same problem.

It even leads to out of memory exceptions, when cross compiling in an alpine arm container in github actions: https://github.com/RouHim/this-week-in-past/runs/7892722833 (fixed with `git-fetch-with-cli = true`)

Thank you very much, your workaround is pretty nice. Would be awesome if self_update handles the restart part automatically.

Ok one year later I'm facing the same issue, is there any known workaround beside removing the splash screen? Is there anything we could help?
