So I actually managed to fix this problem. I updated the firmware for the RasPi with `rpi-update` and I no longer get the error.

I can copy and paste those symbols to the terminal fine. Cat-ing that document everything dislpays correctly except the ethiopian and Runes secions. I'm using Urxvt as my terminal emulator...
