I notice Vim does this whenever I create a file from terminal using linefeeds ("\r\n") to preserve indentation.

Recently switched from macOS to Ubuntu. I think @stevenpack is exactly right: the absence of a fast, comprehensive filesearch utility _a la_ Spotlight/Alfred is a real blow to my productivity....
