I've tried the same on LineageOS and using Material Files (from f-droid) and same thing here, so not specific to Samsung or SD card (I tried with internal storage) 

Unless you also require cross-compiling, you could make a loader that loads a different .jsc depending on the platform. For compiling for different platforms there is WSL2/Wine or VMs.
