I dont think that error is related to ui problems. What does `/api/v3/site` return? And are there any error messages logged for lemmy-ui on the server or in browser console?
Ive noticed various times that the comments for a post are not loading, maybe thats related. Cant think of any reason though.
Yes checking with `LocalUser` or `LocalUserId` would make more sense. I dont think its a problem in practice because remote users cannot call the api (as evidenced by using `local_user_view`...

Another thing we can do is list on the donation page the people who are receiving donations (dessalines and me currently). With name, avatar, github and lemmy profiles as well...
