While I don't disagree, this happens whether or not the compendium is locked. In any case, some sort of a message should be displayed to the user. I'm particularly surprised...

For prioritization purposes, this can happen in the wild. Here's an example that occurred today, in this case due to importing 400 CzePeku scenes at once: ![image](https://github.com/foundryvtt/foundryvtt/assets/64667579/24ce0869-42a5-4721-99a7-1d8bd6c6bf38)

Per SpiceKing's testing in 11.315, the breakage shown in this screenshot only occurs after a reload. Before the reload, the UI is more functional still (if overcrowded): ![image](https://github.com/foundryvtt/foundryvtt/assets/64667579/638709c9-0dff-4ae7-97a8-f2c8c2c992c6)

I have also seen this happen in the wild... I believe it occurred in v12 Prototype 2 with DND5E 3.1. Just like Nordiii, my player went to move the token...

Token Auras module also might be of interest.

There is a MergeChat module that can be a reference, Also MidiQoL recently added a chat merging feature if you wanted to take a look at that.

@unsoluble Added as https://github.com/foundryvtt/foundryvtt/issues/10757 and https://github.com/foundryvtt/foundryvtt/issues/10758, thanks.

Generalized this issue a bit... this also happens with Shapes, and also occurs when removing a Shape / Behavior
