I disabled the Android Auto manually in the Settings... No desire or need for it. But yes, I can confirm that after re-enabling it in Settings, the Play button changes...

I think the developer @mattttvaughn has dropped this project all together. If you check his account on github, he has no issues posting updates to other projects, but hasn't touched...
