There is some intrinsic switching time when using the 2nd method where there is no output at all during the switch, so it may not be suitable for your needs....

What happens when you try the si5351_example.ino sketch and try varying the output frequency [here](https://github.com/etherkit/Si5351Arduino/blob/master/examples/si5351_example/si5351_example.ino#L38)? Does the output at least change frequency at all?
