Probably belongs in the `Reference` section of the docs with a link from the README. We could also move the `Reference` section up to the *first* if that makes sense.

Could you simply create an `.ipynb_checkpoints/.gitkeep` file (or similar), then do an assert in the `test_utils.py`?
