Same here. Yesterday got updated my retropie via "sudo apt-get update" etc, new kernels are installed and now xpad updates or installations fails. Hope this gets fixed, soon.
I read this yesterday and tried it immediately. It has helped me too. Just forgot to comment here. Thanks anyway for your help.
