Research and doc authenticate-client API endpoint

@iansk @sgordon46 I wasn't able to get the steps fully working. I tried installing LDAP first as described in this article: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-install-openldap-on-ubuntu-18-04/ but wasn't able to successfully complete those steps...
