Thanks @philipmgrant for pointing this thread, I hadn't seen it. I have the same issue: went from 4.8.6 to 5.0.2, and the red dot on the tray icon doesn't appear...

Just wanted to support this idea. No doubt that a MPV hero will take on this mission. :) The new feature is supposed to work not only on 4xxx cards...
