I read your hack but there is no firmware file in the .kobo folder. And where would I get the modded firmware you suggested?

That's what I did as I described above. After resetting the machine there is no kobocloud folder in .kobo and the KoboRoot.tgz is gone. Am I missing something?

I gave up on this. Better switch to Collabora Online. This is supposed to be the future standard in Nextcloud.

Thanks Kevin. I did that but no change. Process is running but no GUI. I used this fork: https://github.com/KAMIKAZEUA/NativeDisplayBrightness/ This worked for me.

I found an even better alternative: https://github.com/the0neyouseek/MonitorControl It recognizes my monitor. I can even set the contrast.

Issue still present on NC25. Also on NC23 and NC24.

I got the same error in Brave browser with NC 22.2.6
