I had exactly the same question and use case - but saw the reference to create_task in the release notes and got my use case working before I saw this...

then why not a pypi deployment ? then pipx could be used to deploy anywhere.

This one is still open right ? Is there a current link to download a .tgz of the redpanda install ? Why not just add it to the github releases...

100% - needs a better error message. Likely the first thing most users will do is try it against an existing local fork.

oh yeah - and the build will fail until we have an updated consulate package. I've pinged the maintainer to see when he will be able to push one.
