Looks like python 3.12 is still no good, but at least the rest of CI is working fine (unlike the last two failures 2 months ago)

I believe someone mentioned an issue with the first MD notebook, needs looking at again.

This particular issue was fixed upstream - it was a packaging issue with the core library I had to resolve
