Works for me. You should consider using Cookie AutoDelete and only keep cookies you really need. That wouldn't include any from Fairfax.

Just manually added "*://*.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/*", to background.js and it worked fine. Could you please add this line to your official build, please?

You can sign up for a free trial, then renew it every month. Use a disposable email address or a different +suffix with a gmail account.

I get that on the Courier Mail. Yet hitting F5 (reload) immediately afterwards loads the site. Ad blocking does the same thing. Can live with it.
