This is just too exploitable. I don't think I'll ever be able to justify adding this if there is ever going to be expanded multiplayer functionality.

This isn't a proper solution. Self-KO always hits your full HP. This will just hit for high damage, which won't necessarily work.

If this damage isn't responsible for the faint, why do we need it to target yourself then?

A solution for excess candies is already well planned out. I'm not convinced at this point to add this in, at least until that feature is in.
