Did you try using 1.4.0-rc0 branch @palpatine1991 ? Also the ngcc postinstall fixes will no longer be recommended in Angular 9.1 as they have made it better.
perhaps this can be built into nvm - perhaps by adding an npm version flag along with the node version and architecture flag on install, and an update-nvm function
I am having the same problem with 12.5.1 - near 100% cpu usage, task monitor can't even load, internet connections don't work. Disabling Lulu from the menu bar fixed it.
