For a more apples-to-apples comparison you would need to use fontspec with New Computer Modern

Do you mean the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_(typography) ? That's down to coincidence I think. They aren't considered at all as far as I'm aware of.

Note that `cancel` can now be used for this purpose due to https://github.com/typst/typst/pull/2466, though `strike` still does not work.
