@dogasantos **What** is still happening? This issue has become too complex, there are too many reports and it is unclear whether they refer to the same issue.
Note that X509_VERIFY_PARAM_set1_host() is not available in LibreSSL either: [Use autoconf to detect OpenSSL and libssl features](https://bugs.python.org/issue32598)
This has been already discussed. See #22 and #371 for example.
