Feature suggestion: Adding hot beverage system.

So after having been busy for awhile I finally got around to making a model for a thermos and texturing it. Although I still need to learn how to get it into arma I thought it would be nice to start a discussion on here about the actual gameplay design for this feature.

My original thought was that you will be able to find the thermos in residential areas, it can be used like a normal water bottle with the added bonus that you can now use it in combination with possible items like instant coffee or a box of tea (these might work similar to box of matches). You would then basically have the effect of a water bottle and a heatpack in one item. In my opinion this will add flavor to game which I am sure RP players will appreciate as well as providing a more natural alternative to heatpacks to keep warm on a rainy night.

I would appreciate some feedback on this feature, thanks in advance.

I like the idea but we will be limited by the engine so we cant have hot or cold. We have no way to track how long an item has been hot for.

I dont´t think, that´s a gameplay issue... just boil up some water in a pot or empty can and put it in the thermos. (add some herbs, to make tea) Same effect as a heatpack when consumed. Let it just stay hot forever. No one will bother, I think.

By the way, @thcNox ... I like the idea a lot :)

I like this suggestion, another alternative for heat packs and it hydrates too. Razor how do you do it with the 15 min sepsis countdown? Could perhaps a similar approach be used here?

Ah yeah, I forgot about the hydration. Wow, the thermos could become super valuable!

I never intended for the heat to dissipate, it's bit wonky but ultimately I do not think people will be too bothered by that

We started tea and stuff awhile ago so adding this isn't that hard to do long as we don't do hot and cold. Sepsis is a player system not Somthing in you inventory

Sadly the way it works in ARMA 2 is that you can't actually keep track of things in your inventory, as they're not objects. That's the reason it's not possible for us to track how long something has been existing / hot / etc..

But I like the idea and we were discussing something like this for a while.

Ok, so we make a Thermos and make a right click option to 'Make tea' you would use one Water Bottleand a Herb Box. It would be listed as Thermos (Tea) [ItemThermosTea] and when drank, it increases hydration and acts as an [ItemHeatpack]. It can break and be repaired by Duct Tape. It could even be used in place of a Water Bottle, but without the Heatpack option. Heck, we could even heat canned goods that provide food levels and a heat pack.

Just an idea.
