So, this laptop (not exactly sure how old it is, but it was running XP and system BIOS said it was 2004) I have the 32-bit version installed on it....

"Let's" means let us. In other words you said "let us us..."

After installing the add-on, it errored, and my WIFI, sound, clock, and power button disappeared. My OS is ElementaryOS with GNOME 3.28.2

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me that there's no way to actually ignore a folder. How do I do this?
