Worth noting that this is also an issue with raspbian 10/raspberry pi OS on the p400 device. The given solution worked for me here too.
My temporary (and ongoing) workaround was to comment out XMLParser support but I will look in to your suggestion when I get a moment.

Having been tinkering with amiberry recently, amiberry kindof supports a version of this. You can drag and drop whdload packages in either zip or lha format and it'll run them....
The amiberry approach here is there to provide good integration of amiberry for things like retroarch where you just want to launch a game direct from a single (lha) file
