Is there are reason why you wouldn't want to use the flatpak version? In my experience it works well and updating it is easy.

I have the same issue with EasyEffects, I need to manually use Helvum to get the audio to work.

This has happened to me too. I believe it might be because of Discord, at least in my case: whenever I was connected to a call, the issue arose.
