I don't know why, but building the solution with the build.bat file does not generate an .appx file, but rather .msix files and an .msixbundle. Try searching for .msix instead.

I ran the build.bat, but I did not get an .appx file. I got an .msix file. Is that intended?

I am not sure if this will solve your exact issue, but I think I ran into this error when I tried running the .exe file from the build folder....
